We are in the dead of winter and sometimes all you can do (besides dreaming of warmer afternoons at the pool) is fake it till you make it. There is comfort in wrapping yourself up in your favorite sweater and making yourself some yummy soup from scratch to warm your insides. Growing up in Florida in our Jewish-Spanish kitchen, I was not taught any homemade soup recipes. Maybe because you couldn’t have paid my picky eater self to try Matzoh Ball Soup and any Spanish soups mi Abuela would have made are long gone from my mother’s memory.
I didn’t make my first homemade soup until my early 20s and even then it was a very basic chicken noodle soup. I definitely feel deprived growing up of this and now that I live in England and I see a lot more colder days than I do warmer, I have been trying every 2 weeks to make one.
Here are a few of my favorite homemade soup recipes. Some I have tried, some that are on my list. I am determined to try to make Matzoh Ball Soup this year, the ultimate Jewish penicillin.
- Turmeric Tomato Detox the magic of turmeric
- Sausage and Kale Soup hearty and healthy
- Peruvian Estafado Stew I had to put a Peruvian dish in there!

I <3 soup season! And my husband is two weeks post-op from gastric sleeve surgery, so he's getting ready to upgrade to smushed food and the doctor recommended making some yummy soups, so this is perfect timing :)
