2. a style of rock music characterised by a raucous guitar sound and lazy vocal delivery.
I discovered grunge music in my early teens. Whilst my peers were moshing in circle pits to Nu-Metal, I was part of a small pocket in my school who had discovered Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. I had found my soulmate in grunge music. The fuzzy guitars, the banshee screams of Courtney Love and Chris Cornell, the whole sound of the genre spoke to me.
I religiously collected albums by all the bands associated with grunge, as well as artists I knew had inspired them. For me, this movement opened up the door to a plethora of other musicians and I hope it does for you too. This collection includes the usual stalwarts you’d expect to see, as well as bands like The Melvins and Sonic Youth who are often credited with kickstarting the scene.
