The Roots Of American Punk

CBGB To The 9:30 To The Masque To 924 Gilman

With the recent pop punk playlist that came out, we decided to make one that goes back to some of the roots of American punk on both coasts.

1970s, 80s, & early 90s punk rock hailing from classic venues such as CBGB & Max’s Kansas City in NYC, the 9:30 Club in DC, The Masque in LA, and 924 Gilman St. in San Francisco make up the majority of the list, although we did sneak in a few other bands.

We grew up on this. We lived and breathed everything from hardcore punk to political punk and everything in between. We fit in when no one wanted us and we had nowhere to go. We demanded a place and we found ourselves. It wasn’t just a phase, and we’re still just as enthusiastic 40+ years later.
