If you’re reading this I’m going to guess that either you are pregnant (congrats!) and looking for things to suggest when person after person keeps asking you “What can I get you?” OR you are the friend or family of a pregnant person and you want to get on their good list as far as gifts go. I have compiled the ultimate list of some great practical baby shower gifts.
I shall try not to steer you wrong!
Diaper Bags
I personally swear by backpacks for diaper bags (and I’ve been using the same backpack since I was 11 years old). But there are so many adorable options and you probably have a good idea of what the parent(s) you are buying for would like. Check out this tattoo flash diaper bag by RockerByeBaby or this gorgeous coral backpack.
Diapers (Cloth OR Disposable)
This of course, requires that you find out if the person you are buying for will be using cloth or disposable diapers on their baby’s bottom!
If the family will be using disposable, you could go the diaper cake route which is ADORABLE or the Flower Pot one Diana did! Of course you could just put together a nice package of diapers (maybe a sampler pack of different brands!) and gentle wipes.
If the family has decided to use cloth diapers, you can’t go wrong getting them some one-size diapers! There are lots of options out there but here are a few suggestions…
And don’t forget the inserts! You got to be practical.
Swaddling blankets
Aden + Anais swaddling blankets are absolutely amazing – soft, a great size, and adorable patterns. They can be expensive but having owned a couple I can vouch that they are the best.
However, Carter’s two-packs of swaddle blankets are also super cute and handy to have around! (Photo from SND kids)
Gift cards for baby clothes
I suggest gift cards – perhaps accompanied by a blanket or a cute romper – because most parents like to choose their baby’s clothes themselves. I know my husband and I had a lot of fun spending the gift cards we received from my baby shower, picturing our baby in this outfit or that one. You can never go wrong with an Amazon gift card as you can get almost any newborn essential delivered next day with Prime.
They will be appreciated. No, they don’t seem like the most exciting gifts but trust me as a mom who is breastfeeding her second child – you’ll be thanked.
Baby Wash and Lotion
There are many many options here, from the classic Johnson & Johnson to the fancier Mustela or California Baby lines. All of them will make baby smell amazing!
And of course any of these ideas could be combined – a diaper bag full of diapers! A baby wash set with a gift card!
One more thing that any new parent would appreciate would be gift cards for Starbucks or takeout food or heck, even McDonalds. In those first weeks of baby being home there’s a steep learning curve. Having the option to not cook would be amazing! Of course gift cards for the grocery store and the drugstore would be great too. What do you think of the list? Do these practical baby shower gifts seem legit?
