I hope your little black hearts are as excited as mine was when you see this new subscription box on offer. Black Box Subscriptions offers you a personalized monthly package of goth accessories delivered right to your front door, all in a cute coffin box! Each box is filled with a variety of dark treats suck as candies, makeup, jewelry, music, art and more. We interviewed the lovely Vixx Secundus, the founder of Black Box, about her beautiful business and this is what she had to say about finding the perfect gift for the goth crowd.
PM: When was your small business founded?
Vixx: October 2014
PM: Where are you based out of?
Vixx: Tulsa, Oklahoma
PM: How many are involved in the company?
Vixx: Just me!
PM: What inspired you to start Black Box Subscriptions?
Vixx: I had seen a lot of subscription companies started and even tried out a couple. None seemed to fit my taste and I didn’t find anything catering to the alternative communities.
PM: Did you have a background in crafting prior to starting the company?
Vixx: Yes I love to craft! My mother, grandmother, and I would spend Sundays trying new crafts and it has always been something I turn to when feeling bored or in a funk.
PM: Did you run into any problems or resistance while launching your company?
Vixx: The biggest problem I had was trying to find a coffin box supplier that had decent rates. The first and only company I found were late 3 weeks getting my shipment to me twice. This lead to me getting behind on orders and that was a horrible feeling. I decided to invest in a die cutting machine and had a custom cut die for the coffin boxes so I hand cut and glue each box!
PM: What is the most exciting part of running your own business?
Vixx: The most exciting part of my business is I get the feeling of always buying gifts for friends. I also get to make most of the jewelry and other items in the boxes which makes me really happy.
PM: What do you see in the future for your shop?
Vixx: I just opened a retail location in my home town that I like to call a spooky boutique. It features art, jewelry, oddities, clothing, home decor, and any weird things I come across. It’s always been a dream of mine and now I get to do both businesses together. Anything I can do to help other artists and small businesses is a huge passion of mine, and I would love to get to do that through both Black Box Subscriptions and my retail store.
Vixx enjoys all things creative. Singing, painting, writing, dancing, and she has a keen eye for fashion and detail. She has years of experience with small business promotion and advertising. We wish her well in all her endeavors, especially Black Box Subscriptions!
