Cooler temperatures are in the air hopefully for some of you. I know Autumn is a favorite time of year for most of us over at Punky Moms. I’m originally from Florida so we usually don’t see it until maaaayyyyybe November. However now in the UK, I get to see it in it’s full glory. With it, comes cooler temperatures, leaves changing colors, and our most favorite holiday is on it’s way (I don’t need to tell you what that one is Punkies hint). When we moved last year to our new home in Liverpool, I was lucky enough to discover an apple tree in the back garden!
It needed a little bit of help as it had not been touched in years, and so we pruned it, and feed it, and in short amount of time we had a pretty good harvest.
September is when apples are ready for picking so with a full bucket here, I began searching for some apple recipes to have. This is a super simple one for homemade applesauce. This is great for a lunch snack, baby food, or as a condiment with your English Sunday roast. This also makes my house smell amazing too!
If you do plan on making a huge batch to freeze (I did this when Oscar was a baby), cook the peeled and cored apples and mash the pulp into sauce. You can add sugar if you want to (I didn’t when making for baby), but leave out the spices. Spices lose their flavor with freezing, so plan on adding them to the applesauce after you thaw it.
Slow Cooker Apple Sauce
Ingredients
- 10 Medium Apples - I use a combination of types
- 1 Cinnamon Stick 3 inches
- 1 Strip of Lemon Peel
- 1 tsp Fresh Lemon Juice
- 5 tsp Light Brown Sugar Agave, or whatever sweetener of choice
Instructions
- Peel, core and chop the apples.
- Add the sugar, cinnamon stick, lemon peel, lemon juice.
- Put slow cooker on low and cook for 6 hours. Stir apples occasionally. Remove cinnamon stick and use an immersion blender to blend until smooth. I prefer mine a little bit chunky so I leave it as is.
- You can can them as you would normally or keep refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
Yum!!
It was good!! I still have some in my fridge. Gave some away to friends. Super easy.
