You too can have some smelly goodness to hang up with these easy cinnamon air dry ornaments. All you need is some applesauce, cinnamon, and your favorite cookie cutters. A word of caution: cinnamon can irritate sensitive skin, wash your hands directly after handling the dough or use plastic gloves if you’re concerned.
Ingredients for Cinnamon Air Dry Ornaments:
- 3/4 cup applesauce
- 1 cup cinnamon (It’s a LOT, hit up the dollar store or your favorite bulk store for the cheap stuff)
Yes, that’s really it. Mix together to form a wet ball. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick and cut out your shapes.
Using a straw, poke a hole in the top center of how you want your shape to hang. Place your ornaments on a tray and stick them out of the way to dry for a couple days. If you want them today, toss them on a cookie sheet and shove them in the oven at 200 degrees for a couple hours.
Once they are dry you can detail them with puff paint or leave them as they are. Hang them up or use them to snazzy up a gift.
I made the squirrel above 3 years ago and it still smells. This year, I experimented with adding a little orange oil and ground cloves, smells like wassail! What combination would you use?
I had not recalled this recipe until I read this. My mother used to make these with my sister and I when we were young. :)
My grandmother used to always make these and it’s my favorite way to remember her now. Great tutorial!
I made these last year but did bake them. The house smelled amazing for a couple days after!
How fun – I remember making These with my mom when I was a kid!
These are so so so cute! What a fun DIY project to try!
