The time is now to fight rape culture. Have you seen this Dear Daddy video yet? Warning, lots of triggers (rape and domestic violence) and lots of emotional feels. We warned you.
It is a very powerful video that is hoping to send a message to fathers and would-be fathers everywhere to urge them to help protect their daughters. Then can do this by standing up and showing zero tolerance to rape culture.
“By the time I am 14 the boys in my class will have called me a ‘whore’, a ‘bitch’, a ‘c**t’ and many other things. It’s just for fun, of course… By the time I am 16 a couple of the boys will have snuck their hands down my pants while I’m so drunk I can’t even stand straight. No wonder I’m raped when I’m 21.”
Oh what, she’s drunk? Don’t for a moment think she is inviting trouble. If you think that, you are part of the rape culture problem. There is no outfit, behavior, or action that ever warrants someone to be taken advantage of with any sort of sexual force. Getting drunk and partying is part of the growing up teenage experience and doesn’t give anyone the right to harm you because of it. Of course you should be safe about your surroundings, that is common sense.
It is a great video but has it gone too far? “He tried to kill me?”
