It’s June and in this household that means it’s Cure month.
By the time you read this, The Cure will have played at Madison Square Garden in NYC, as part of their 2016 North American Tour. Even though I have seen them live 8 times prior, I will have been there two of the three nights, crying like a Beatles-Mania broad from the 60s.
For many of us, The Cure has grown and changed with us from adolescence to adulthood. If you are a Cure fan you have a song (or a few songs) that remind you of a breakup, a Cure song that you play when getting ready to go out, a Cure song for feeling feisty, the Cure song for house chores, the Cure song for nostalgia, the one for dancing about the house with abandon, a Cure song for bottomless desperation, the one for limitless hope and a sexy time Cure song (ok, the entire Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me album, ::meow::). In that vein, this playlist contains 39 years of the Cure but the songs will have tentacles into each of us and our limitless memories, emotions, losses, and dreams.
As with any amazing musical group, there will be constant debate over which songs are the best and should be included in any playlist. This particular playlist was created from my personal relationship with each of the songs and in creating it I paid special attention to the vibe of each one and how it connected to the one prior and thereafter; at just under 5 hours, the playlist ebbs and flows in tempo and atmosphere and can be listened to in sessions or all at once.
The first and last songs of any playlist are essential. That being said, the first song, Lullaby, was my Mom’s favorite Cure song and it is dedicated to her, and to our Punky Mom Family. The last song, Faith, is my favorite Cure song of all.
Enjoy!
