Savages
Adore Life

22 January 2016
What can I say about our first music pick of the week? You’re going to love Savages if you’ve never heard of them before. I first heard of this London-based band when I got to hear their track Husbands back in 2013. It grabbed hold of me, and my little teenage goth self was in love. Have you ever wondered what Siouxie would sound like today if she was 20 again? There is no denying the influence of the head Banshee in the Savages music, as well as Joy Divison and other similar post-punk bands. I think the kids today are calling it post-punk revival. Whatever the fuck it, it is damn good. I bought 2013’s Silence Yourself on vinyl when visiting Daddy Kool Records in St. Pete (shout out!), and it still is in my heavy rotation.
Adore Life is definitely one of the most anticipated releases for me this year. To even further their cool points, Savages were able to get freaking HENRY ROLLINS to be in their album promo video. The video is set to him reading from “Jazz Cleopatra: Josephine Baker in Her Time” by Phyllis Rose. Watch it below.
Although Adore Life is set to be released on January 22nd, Savages have released a few singles throughout the past few months already.
The Answer back in October 2015, T.I.W.Y.G in November and my definite favorite so far Adore just this month. Adore offers a hint of dark doo-wop in it’s chorus. It’s stunning and beautiful and hauntingly dark. I’m in love.
“I may die, maybe tomorrow…So I need to say… I adore life.”
