We are changing things up here at Mom Boss central. I have asked the lovely Alex from Haus Of Mono to take over the Featured Mom Shop section for us. Haus Of Mono is an inspiring new lifestyle brand that has brought the word Slay into my everyday conversations. Featuring her shop while we are in transition was perfect.
I met Alex in our Punky Moms UK subgroup a few months ago. She drove herself and her son Dexter to a meetup we had organized and since then we have become fast friends.
Diana will still be submitting the occasional article here and there, but she will be focusing more on our Punky Moms online shop since our Mama Merch gear is taking off thanks to you guys!
Haus of Mono is dedicated to EMPOWERING ALL THE PEOPLE. With catchy slogans like Powerhouse, Take No Shit, Slay Mama and Kill The Doubt, you are bound to find a little something for you in their selection of prints and accessories to get you ready to take on the world.
PM: When was your company Haus Of Mono founded and where are you based?
HM: Haus of Mono was officially launched on April 22nd of this year (2016) and I’m based in the seaside resort of Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, UK.
PM: How many are involved in your small business?
HM: It’s just me!
PM: What inspired you to start your own company?
HM: I’ve had other businesses before, I just thrive on working creatively. I find DIY therapeutic in many ways and so I’ve always needed that constant and it’s a great outlet. I’ve also always loved the idea of having my own company, too, so it made sense for my company to be fundamentally based on my creative efforts.
PM: Did you have a background in business prior to starting your company?
HM: Other than selling on Etsy before Haus of Mono, very little.
PM: Did you run into any problems or resistance while launching?
HM: I originally planned to launch in May of 2015 and publicly announced it, and I ran into the time-old work/parenting balance that so many of us parents battle daily. Then I joined PMUK [Punky Moms UK Subgroup] in April 2016, and I became empowered. Ready to slay. The sheer positivity the group exudes is something that I’ve never seen before. Just seeing these women who are for the most part strangers building each other up was such a motivational boost for me, mentally too. I felt like a force to be reckoned with after a couple of personal posts, and once I had committed to a launch date and time I enlisted the help of other family members for childcare to ensure I hit that target.
PM: How do you get the most out of your day?
Every day is a battle of imbalance at the moment, as I have two jobs on top of everything else. Through all of the imbalance, I try my hardest to wake early before everyone to try and have some alone time. I find having some solo down time first thing in the morning allows me to get into a good headspace for the day and ultimately makes me more proactive and productive.
PM: How is your family a part of your business choices?
HM: Haus of Mono was born out of frustration when Dexter was first born and I wanted to buy things that didn’t exist or weren’t high street accessible. Though the concept of Haus of Mono has evolved since its inception – I see my products fundamentally as a reflection of parenthood, certainly as a mother and parent myself, and so my experiences of daily family have shaped the brand for sure. Haus of Mono in its entirety revolves around my family’s schedule, so its success hinges greatly on day-to-day family life, and how well I can manage my time as a mother.
PM: What music inspires you?
HM: Noisy, Loud music. Motown, Soul, Funk, prog-rock, post-hardcore music. My taste spans across the spectrum basically, I named my son after Jeff Buckley (a middle name) which speaks for itself.
PM: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working?
HM: Currently (sans hanging with my son Dexter) embroidering or watching live shows on youtube since I don’t get to attend them much at the moment.
PM: What do you see in the future for your shop?
HM: Bigger. Better. More variety and more empowerment to the people.
Congrats on your launch! Wish you all the success in your business!
Thank you so much Sabrina!
