Maybe you participated in a Punky Moms Holiday card swap? In that case, you might have more Christmas cards left over than you know what to do with. I have received some super cute card designs over the years and the DIY girl in me hates to throw them out! Every year I try and come up with some ways to recycle the cards. Sometimes I actually get my craft on, but usually I only can do one or two.
While some may believe that sending Christmas cards is an old tradition that must die, there are many who still hold on to this with everything they have. Every year we say we won’t do cards, and we cave to the pressure! If you have time to get holiday photos done every year, it can be a cute way to update people on what is happening at home. If you don’t have time for the photos, you might pick up a pack of cards and send them out to the usual suspects. We compromised this year and bought cards whose proceeds go to a charity. If you want to give back some more this holiday season, check out some ideas here.
Whatever the reasons, we are all about recycling and saving the world at Punky Moms, so I thought I would put together a cool list of ideas you can use to reuse and recycle your cards at the end of the holiday season. 1. Frame Them
Grab some cheap frames from Ikea, put some old cards and boom, you have an instant way to update your home with some decorations.
2. Make Your Own Holiday Wreath
I’ve seen whole wreaths made from old cards but sadly that is not what I have time for. This photo is one of mine. I made this Christmas wreath out of black garden bags. I used three different cards to make the letters in the banner.
3. Gift Tags
Another project I did recently. Hole puncher and some baker’s twine and it’s done!
4. Heart House Ornament
Looks so beautiful. Lovely step by step instructions at Pomegranate And Chinz.
5. Make cute little boxes for gifts
Perfect to put in stockings or give a more personalized touch to an already personal holiday gift. Click here for the full step by step instructions.
6. More Holiday Ornaments
7. Christmas Card Coasters
for all those glasses of Mulled wine you’ll be consuming…
8. Christmas Card Bunting
Oh we love a good bunting and since I moved to England, it’s almost become an obsession. I’ve got so many garlands I have legit run out of place to put them.
9. Recycled Card Tree
Mix it up with some solid colored card stock paper (in black perhaps) and this could be a really cute modern decoration.
10. Holiday Village
I almost can’t stand the cuteness of this. So many possibilities on this design too! House template available at Better Homes & Garden.
Do you have any ideas on what to do with the old Christmas cards? How do you reuse them? Let’s hear it!
