Afternoon Garden Tea Party Baby Shower

When Kelly, my sister-in-law got pregnant, the first thing I got pretty excited about was her baby shower. I couldn’t help myself. I love hosting and I love decorating and throwing parties. From the beginning, I imagined it at our house in the garden setting. Naturally, it turned into a tea party baby shower afternoon.

Pinks and yellows dominated the color scheme. Initially I thought of using roses, but I am not really fond of roses, so I picked ranunculus, wax flower and hydrangeas. I utilized my collection of antique teapots to host the flowers.

I had a white candle chandelier, I wanted to hang from our live oak in the yard and use it as a center piece. I pictured pennants being strung from it.

I created the pennants from fabric instead of paper because it has a longer lasting life. My fiancé’s mother is a quilter, so I thought to myself, how amazing would it be if she made a quilt from the fabric?! tea party baby shower ideas (11)

I hand stitched the napkins. Yes, kinda crazy for a party of 47, but I couldn’t find any napkins that I liked. The linen is perfect and the stamp was even more perfect – found that off Etsy. It’s so wild, I ended up coming across a baby carriage that was the spitting image of the stamp, in a thrift store days before the baby shower. It kinda became the shower’s mascot.

I love pallet walls as back drops. Since I had some lumber laying around and am pretty handy at tearing apart pallets (in all honesty, I didn’t want to pay $5/sq foot to have someone else do something I can do myself), I created the one behind the food table.

I love the precious cargo theme and created that in the back yard. My intention was to create a photo-op spot for my sister-in-law and her friends and family.

Unfortunately, on the day of the tea party baby shower, it rained. Which seems unfitting for mother nature to shower on a shower! Regardless, I was very determined and left everything just as it was so Kelly and the photographer, Miriam Lorenzi, could come back the next day. After all, I couldn’t let all that time and hard work go to waste!!

The following day, when Kelly came back for her second round of baby shower pictures, she brought some of her baby clothes, which is what I had wanted from the very beginning!! I loved the idea of incorporating things from our childhood into the shower. The yellow sweater was made for me by my Great Grand Mother and the baby dresses were Kelly’s. We strung up some twine and I grabbed clothespins from my kitchen to create a little setting for the clothing.
