My husband and I are planning a date night later this month. Date night is a big deal for us as I work early government hours during the week, and he works restaurant hours – nights and weekends. We don’t get a lot of quality time together. In an effort to make date night more fun and special, my wonderful husband arranged for the children to have a sleep over with friends, then booked us a room at one of his company’s hotels downtown.

This morning, as he was getting the kids ready for school (I had already left for work), he told them of this plan. Then our nearly 8 year old daughter says: “Are you going to get naked and have sex?”

I wish I could have seen the look on his face.

He asked her where she had heard that and she apparently just giggled and said she didn’t know.

Naturally, he texted me immediately after this happened, then we spoke about it after he dropped them off at school.

Later this evening, she brought it up again with me. “Daddy said you were going to stay at a hotel and get naked and have sex.”

First I asked her where she heard about this.

“Howard Wolowitz.” (For some reason, Howard is her favorite character on the Big Bang Theory… he skeeves me out.)

The Big Bang Theory’s Hot Troll Deviation episode

I asked her if she knew what sex was.

“You get naked in bed with someone and kiss a lot.”

I explained that was basically what happens while she giggled a lot. Then she asked, “Did you and daddy ever do that?”

I said yes and that was how she and her brother got to be. Then explained that it was something you did as a grown up and only with someone you love and who loves you back.

She mulled this over for a while, then informed me that I should tell my siblings that if they wanted to have babies so that she could have a cousin, then they should “have complete and total sex.”

It was very hard for me to not lose it laughing.

I won’t stop her from watching this show. She has to learn about these things at some point. May as well do it with good humor involved.

We have a large section of local boards here. They are here for arranging local events, parties, gatherings and so on. There is a main local board and many individual city boards. If you don’t see a city board that is near you to plan events and meet local Punky Moms, post a thread on the main local board and see if anyone in your area responds. If you find 5 other moms in your area, we will build you a board for your town!

VERY IMPORTANT…. when you are planning a meetup on the locals board, please be sure you are ready to follow through with the event, before you start the topic. The topic starter is the event organizer, and it is their responsibility. Often times, people flake, kids get sick and stuff comes up. This is understandable…but sometimes people are planning to drive long distances and in some cases fly out to be there…so please take your planning seriously and respect your fellow mamas!

Punky Moms has become very strong off the internet and we hope you can find some great new Punky Moms to hang out with!

Look forward to meeting up with ya soon.

Schulz

We’ve been kind of inactive lately – and we apologize for it – but our kids are getting bigger and that seems to mean more time-intensive extra-curriculars!

This year, like previous years, we have a Thankful Tree on our table. We bring it out on November first and leave it up until the end of the month. I saw the idea a few years ago somewhere or other (oops! I’m sorry for stealing your idea if it was you!) and decided to adapt it. We picked up an after Halloween clearance wire spooky tree and I cut and sewed loops onto fabric leaves and then we pooled our ideas and wrote one on each leaf. Our leaves range from food on our table to the sun in the sky to the people in our home. We included imagination and money and clothing. We only have 25 leaves, but I’ve been tempted to add more. This year my nine year old told me he is thankful for bacon… not a bad idea if you ask me

So while our year is winding down, we’re taking time to reflect on what we have instead of on what we don’t. I’m trying to impress on my kids – as always – that the upcoming holidays are not about stuff, and that we need to look at what we have and what others might not. So whether you are a have, or a have not, please try to remember those who have less and give what you can, whether it’s in the form of food, money or donating your time. We try to give year-round, but it really hits home this time of year, when we are gathering our family and friends up in our arms to celebrate the season, that not everyone has that ability.

Summer is closing out, everyone should be in school now and getting back into that schedule. Fall is upon us! I squealed this past weekend starting to see the Halloween gear out in the shops. Treated myself to a Pumpkin Spiced Latte today to really kick it off.

The forum made a horizontal move last month. to the new URL http://punkymoms.com/family - We were having some upgrade issues with our current board so we moved to (yet another) new one (for, we suppose, the last time!). The move was pretty smooth. If you are having any issues logging in, please email us at info@punkymoms.com

Persephone has been busy blogging away with her Goth Challenge Series. You can check it out over at The Night’s Plutonian Shore.

Paulita won herself a Pin-up Girl Photo Shoot and rocked it. Stay tuned on the forum for her to upload her shots.

Oz being as powerful as she is, did a pretty strong thing and took all the kids to Disney World for the American Labor Day vacation. Not an easy feat!

We had a giveaway last month and sent out copies of Joshua Pearson’s Alphabhetto book to two lucky winners. We love doing giveaways. If you would like to set one up, just use our contact form

Since the Halloween season is upon us, stay tuned for an announcement on the forum for our annual Halloween Swap. It’s safe to say that this is Punkymoms favorite time of year! Boo!!!

Friend to Punkymoms owner Paulita, Joshua T. Pearson has recently published an illustrated alphabet book that is all sorts of amazing. This book is an interesting take on the basic fundamentals that we teach our children at storytime, associating letters with a picture. The usual cast of characters that you relate to when thinking of the alphabet, Joshua has mixed these with the urban decay around us sometimes that we let disappear from our mind. This book helps to captivate not only your child’s interest, but yours as well. You will be taken in by his creative use of poetry and clever visual settings.

Josh Pearson is a Tampa-based artist born in 1979. Raised in a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, he collected random objects throughout his childhood and dismantled them constantly to create what he called “inventions”. At seventeen he began exhibiting his paintings and working for tattoo artists sketching custom pieces. Josh continued to arrange objects and construct “inventions,” going so far as to shift the plates and cups at the dinner table into different compositions every time he sat down. Soon, this obsession would find its’ way into his artwork. He started incorporating colorful collages of magazine clippings after running out of supplies in the middle of a painting, and the tattoo imagery began creeping into his paintings by combining his ink drawings with the collages. What started out as a means to an end, has become the practical approach to everything he does today. Creating something new using only discarded scraps forces him to face the limitations of the material and think around them. This alphabet of creatures was derived with the same philosophy. By examining ordinary objects we encounter every day, we may discover the hidden characters inside of them. We can choose to ignore our sometimes ugly urban environment or embrace it and see its potential.

Want to snag a copy? I have two of these beautiful books to give away! Entering is easy. Head on over and like the book’s facebook page. Then come back here and comment! Anyone can enter, you don’t have to be a current member of the forum. Contest will be open until September 2nd at 10am EST. Winners announced by noon.

Let’s face it, unless you are a Winnie the Pooh or Disney enthusiast, you are pretty much screwed once you have a kid, as far as acquiring anything for your child to match your punk rock lifestyle.

Welcome to your newly decorated home, soon to be littered with all the non-recyclable, neon red and blue plastic crap to keep your baby happy as a little clam! As new punky parents we are forced into a different kind of consumers world, one which makes us believe we must purchase a multitude of brand new “eyesores” in order to make our children happy.

Not so, according to Winter Rosebudd. With a trashed hand-me-down Little Tykes car, a glue gun, some paint and scrap materials, she was able to save money, help the environment (by recycling an old car), and wind up with a really cute toy that matched her families home and lifestyle! Not to mention her 2 year old had a blast helping her re-design it, making it that much more special.

Materials needed…

One old and trashed kiddie car

Spray paint (preferably one that adheres to plastic, such as Krylon Fusion)

Fabric and trims. Here’s where you get creepy and crafty! The skies the limit! Don’t forget to hit the auto parts store for all kinds of stick on mirrors and reflectors.

Hot glue gun, glue sticks, scissors.

Possibly a needle and thread, or a sewing machine if you want to make curtains.

One energetic toddler, to chat and climb all over you, while you are working. Just keep the glue gun and scissors out of reach. Yeah.

Start by cleaning the car really well. In a well vented area, spray paint the entire car, the desired color. If doing 2 colors, then mask off your areas. I suggest doing 2 coats of paint and let it dry completely.

After car is dry, start working with your fabrics and trims. If you are putting fabric on the top of the car, like the leopard one, lay a big piece of fabric over the top and mark four corners, so you can cut out a cool shape. Glue the shape on top, then cover the edges with a trim, such as a 1/2″ flat braid…just glue it down all around the edge. Same goes for the doors and seats.

Now add your accessories. You can buy small domed mirrors for the hubcaps and headlights…they work great! Don’t forget the fuzzy dice and air fresheners!

Catriona aka echoes aka Cat has been a member on Punkymoms for several years. She has been interested in esoteric things since she was a teenager. It wasn’t until she emigrated to the US from the UK at the age of fifteen that she was able to fully pursue things. She has been reading tarot for fifteen years and devouring information about semi-precious stones and beaded jewelry.

She became a certified hypnotist with specialties in past life regression in 2005 and an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church in 2010. When she is not attempting to ascend to different planes of existence, she is ferrying her son to and from school and making sure the house doesn’t burn down. She lives in Central Florida with her spouse, her son, two lodgers, three cats, a dog and a betta. When she isn’t beading or coding she will detox watching Lie to Me, House or No Ordinary Family while trying to avoid games on Facebook.

Several punkymoms have had a tarot reading from her over the years with amazing results. The Silver Path started out as primarily an online store with her 3 other partners, but has blossomed into so much more. Cat has offered a goody basket to this month’s winner, filled with a collection of teas and salts and other surprise goodies. Over a $30 value. To be entered, I’ll give you 3 few chances..Winners will be announced on April 1st.

1. Please like her facebook page and come back here and let me know you did.

2. Go to her website and tell me what your favorite product is

3. Last chance, tell me have you ever had your cards read?
