DIY Darling: Jstar

We have some exciting news for you today! Punkymoms is starting a new monthly feature called DIY Darlings. We will be showcasing a Punkymom crafty member for the entire month. Not only are we going to be showing off some of our favorite punkies but at the end of the month, we will do a giveaway! We have some talented woman (and men) who are members here so you are in for a real treat!

Our debut on the DIY Darling stage is seasoned member Jstar. Jstar is the epitome of a renaissance punkymom. Every single item I have seen her touch has turned to creative gold. She has long been the Punk Rock Betty Crocker in the Orlando punkymom scene. Practically everyone in the Central Florida area has had one of her stellar cakes at their kid’s party.  Her love of baked goods is what prompted her to call her brand new etsy shop Jenny Sweet Cakes.

Among other things she has started to make some ingenious jewelery pieces. Using mostly recycled materials, I’ve seen them in person and they are great quality. The newest to her collection are the epoxy sparkly resin skulls. So freakin cute!

So what about the giveaway? Well Jstar has been so kind to giveaway one of her darling baby/toddler shirts. Your choice! You are in for a treat. I’ve seen these shirts in person and they ROCK! Music is Awesome – Yo Gabba Gabba Contest

You have kids. I don’t need to tell you who Yo Gabba Gabba are.

As far as kids shows and music out there, Yo Gabba Gabba has a death grip on your young child.

It could be worse, I had to live through years of the purple dinosaur with my younger sister. Yo Gabba Gabba is the meteor that wiped Barney out. One of the  greatest things about them, and there are quite a few, is that Yo Gabba Gabba was not made by your typical network tv. It was the brainchild of two dads who thought kids tv sucked (which it did). You can’t get more punk rock then that.

Punkymoms is giving away a copy of their recent MUSIC IS AWESOME Volume 2 disc. Not only are there lots of great songs that are featured on the show, but the album is sprinkled with music such as alt-rock heavyweights Weezer and other modern favorites MGMT, The Faint, Apples in Stereo, etc etc etc

Now how can I win this?

Well, you have to be a new member on our forums. What’s a forum you ask? A great, close-knit community of other mothers out there just like you. The boo-boo kissing, coffee (and beer) drinking, toy collecting, singing, nose wiping, comic book reading, picture taking, cartoon watching, concert going, high heel stroller pushing, ink loving, crafty, music playing, hair dying, BBQing, fierce loving, breast or bottle feeding, attachment parenting, sling wearing, sleep lacking, opinion making, hard working mamas. Yup, just like you.

Sign up. Once you register, you’ll need to post an intro, let us know who you are. We will keep the contest up a week. Then randomly select a new member to receive the copy of the CD. You have a week, contest ends Monday October 11th and 11:59 PM EST. Winners announced on Tuesday.

Oh, and a message out to our seasoned members, don’t think we forgot about you. Whoever gets a friend to sign up during this time will then randomly be picked to receive a prize as well. Just send me a pm on the board and let me know.

Design Contest!

That means new merch! Made to order merch. Want to save money merch? Send me your shirt and I’ll print it for a nominal fee + shipping back merch. Oh yah. It’s gonna be hot.

So, contest? Sure thing! We need a new design! I’m not feeling very creative. Everything I do looks the same or close enough to the same.

Guidelines for your design:

  • 1 color
  • not too detailed (see examples below)
  • no larger than 9″x12″
  • no profanity (I love profanity as much as the next mom, but we’ve found it doesn’t sell well)
  • nothing copywritten elsewhere – this must be a unique design

Contest info:
we’ll have one winner (unless we get more than one amazing, print-worthy design!)
that winner will get

  • a small cash prize (real small, like 25$) either via PayPal (as cash) or in the form of an amazon gift card
  • the first printing of their design
  • some Punky Moms swag

If we have more than one winner we’ll have to figure out what to award as we can’t afford to award multiple cash prizes at this time.

To submit your idea:
Upload it to PhotoBucket or Flickr or FaceBook or wherever you host your images. Then post it as a new post in the newly created Design Contest board. That’s it!

To vote on the ideas:
Go to the newly created Design Contest board. Look at all the pretty pictures! Under the original post you will see some new images for voting. They are kind of self explanatory, but for those who might be color blind, click the grey plus button to vote for a design because it looks like a Dali original (or whomever your fav artist is). It will make it turn green. Click the grey minus button to vote the design out of the contest because you think your un-conceived infant could have done a better job of it. It will make it turn red. You can click it again at any time to rescind your vote.

As an added bonus you may not vote for your own design. You can however promise cookies to anyone who does vote for your design. Design votes are anonymous.

I think that covers everything. Design contest is open as of now, and will close when we have a clear winner. Feel free to vote for every design, you don’t have to pick just one!

Oh, one more thing. If your design gets enough negative votes it will disappear from the running.
